DESCRIPTION:Historic Deerfield will commemorate the 312th anniversary of the 1704 Raid on Deerfield with the free Winter Lecture Series\, In Harm's Way: Conflict and Captivity Before the French and Indian War.  The first lecture\, on January 24 at 2 p.m.\, will be presented by Peter Thomas\, Retired Associate Professor of Anthropology\, University of Vermont\, on "Rethinking King Philip's War in the Connecticut River Valley: Pushing Beyond Old Assumptions." On February 28 at 2 p.m.\,Kevin Sweeney\, Professor of American Studies and History at Amherst College\, will present "Raiding and Captive Taking along the New England and New York Borders 1688-1748." On March 20 at 2 p.m.\, Lisa Brooks\, Associate Professor of English and American Studies\, Amherst College\, will present "Colonization and Captivity in Native Space."  The final lecture in the series\, "The Line of Forts: An Eighteenth Century DEW Line\," will be presented on April 24 at 2 p.m. by Michael Coe\, Professor Emeritus\, Yale University.
